Covid-19 has seriously affected people's lives, and residents all over the world are facing severe life problems. "Doctor C" is an application that is connected to hospitals to record personal health conditions. Users can monitor their daily health status at home, analyze data charts, and consult doctors at any time.

Problem.
Covid-19 is now planet-wide, but it is hitting at different speeds and intensity depending where you live. In the Americas, the United States has it the worst right now — on pace to have tens of millions of cases and possibly hundreds of thousands of deaths that will overwhelm medical capacities and push major economic sectors into deep freeze.
Currently, the US accounts for the overwhelming majority of Covid-19 infections and deaths in the Western Hemisphere — despite having only about one-third of the region’s billion plus people. Mortality from Covid-19 is concentrated among older adults with chronic medical conditions who require regular health check-ups for proper management of medications, vital signs and laboratory values. By limiting people's ability to receive medical support from caregivers due to transmissibility, patients are left vulnerable and unable to access effective treatment.
Challenge.
How might we develop applications to monitor patients' health data and help patients remotely connect with doctors to obtain effective treatment plans?
Solution.
In response to this problem we created DoctorC, a mobile health app designed to help users monitor personal health data. Increase the connection between patients and medical institutions, and provide treatment recommendations and medical assistance by using artificial intelligence technology to collect and analyze health data.
HEALTH DATA MONITORING
Record the user's daily sleep, diet, heart rate and exercise data, monitor health status in real time and provide reasonable suggestions.
MEDICAL CONSULTATION
Users can find doctors from nearby hospitals for medical consultation, and doctors can obtain users’ daily health data to provide medical treatment remotely.
HEALTH MONITORING
Due to the strong transmissibility of Covid-19, users will be monitored for their daily travel locations and the number of patients at that location, thereby enhancing awareness of prevention in advance.
Design Approach
Research
Survey
We investigated the impact of Covid-19 on the United States, focusing on infection rates, death rates, unemployment rates and vaccine rates. Because the impact of covid-19 is based on many different aspects, the enumeration of data is selective. However, in these data, the infection rate of some special groups (the elderly, pregnant women, infants, etc.) is significantly higher than that of other groups.
Visualization Map
During the data collection process, we created visual data charts to more intuitively understand the impact of Covid-19 on the United States. We quickly discovered that Covid-19 has a more direct impact on those aged 50 and over, and that timely treatment and vaccines can significantly reduce symptoms in patients. Therefore, we targeted the elderly and vaccinated people in the next phase of interviews.
Interview
To better understand what users need most during Covid-19, we conducted surveys among different groups of people, including students, teachers, and the elderly.
During the interview we focused on the following issues:
Question 1
What do they need most?
Question 2
What features can improve the health effects of Covid-19?
Question 2
What kind of emotional stress has Covid-19 caused?
Persona
Based on the interview, we comprehensively analyzed and customized the personas for the user to better understand the characteristics, goals and habits of our users to better design our products.
Insights
We collected information about the troubles Covid-19 brings to people and learned that users are very afraid of the negative impact of the virus. Therefore, we need to provide users with a suitable way to improve their normal lives.
We need to establish connections between users and medical institutions so that more people understand the ways to prevent and treat Covid-19. We summarized all participants’ insights on commuting preferences:
Design
Brainstorming
From the research we had gathered we decided to conduct an informed brainstorming session. We have proposed different functions to help users deal with the impact of Covid-19. Due to the particularity of the virus, we should pay more attention to the practicality of the application and whether it can truly relieve users' stress.
Here is a list of features that we came up with to help us achieve our goal:
Concept Exploration
Across all features in the brainstorming process, we evaluate the feasibility and importance of each feature. They can be divided into two parts, one is medical consultation and the other is health data monitoring. We branched the feature into two application concepts to help gauge the best solution to our overarching problem.
Concept #1 Medical Consultation
Our first concept focuses on providing online consultation to users through doctors, and users can choose different doctors to make online appointments. This will allow doctors to easily monitor multiple patients and get their health status.
Concept #2 Health Data
The second concept is based on data analysis of users' daily life. Users need to record their daily diet. The system will automatically detect sport, sleep quality, heart rate and generate comprehensive data comparison.
Visual Design
Once we have established wireframes based on the concept of user needs, we start selecting the appropriate visual system. We choose light blue as a simple colour palette to provide users with a clean medical environment.

High Fidelity Design
For the first iteration of the prototype, our main goal was to validate the user flow of the application while allowing users to get effective health monitoring and effective communication with doctors.

Usability Testing
After we complete the prototype design, we need to re-evaluate the issues in each design. We looked for different volunteers to participate and find problems in the design to improve the user experience.
Here's a brief overview of the process:
1. Introduce project goal
2. Describe the scenario for the context of the task
3. Ask follow up questions and gather feedback from testing
Design Iterations
Through usability testing, we discovered some flaws with the previous prototype, so we started tweaking it to allow users to search past chats and select doctors from different categories.

Next Steps
Data Analysis: If we can completely monitor the user's physical condition through artificial intelligence, we will be able to detect potential symptoms in time and upload them to the hospital cloud. Patients can get more effective medical help, thereby reducing the user's morbidity.
Function Completeness: Our next task will be to add more auxiliary functions and deliver food or medicine directly to homes to solve users' life problems. Caregivers can also register accounts through the app to help more patients solve their problems and reduce the psychological pressure and social panic caused by Covid-19.
